A Little Bit About Me

Elaine

When I was eight years old, I came home from school one day and declared that I was going to be a writer. I'm not certain what prompted that declaration, but unlike so many other decisions in life, it stuck from that day on.

Wolfkin was my first novel--not the first novel-length thing I had written, but certainly the first worth sharing with anyone else. It was originally completed in 1996.

In addition to writing, I have a MS in biology and have worked as a biologist, archaeologist, and office assistant. I'm a vegan (strict vegetarian) and interested in animal rights. I enjoy backpacking, wasting time on the computer, good beer, and loud music.

I live near Charlotte, NC, with my wonderful husband and several cats, who are just like children to us, except they never ask to borrow the car.

DavidAnd who is this handsome fellow? Why it's my husband on our wedding day!

Agatha Agatha Kittenodyne (named after Agatha Heterodyne from Girl Genius.) Aggie loves to fetch balls, but she doesn't quite realize that she has to bring them all the way back to me for them to work - she thinks in the same room is close enough.

Savannah Savannah. Our biggest "lap cat." An angel at home, she turns into the devil's kitten at the vet's office!

BeanBean. My special baby. His favorite thing is to be held like a baby, and try to wash my earlobes.

FermiFermi. Named after Enrico Fermi (you probably learned about him in physics class). He adores my husband, and will cry in the hall outside our bedroom until David gets up to pet him (sometimes at very inconvenient hours of the night).

PumpkinPumpkin, 1997-2007. Showed up in the back yard at the age of about 1.5 years, with a big notch in her ear. The most non-aggressive cat in the world, she had her own special place in the living room where she had to be petted. I miss you, girly-girl.
